“Within My Flow”
A VISUAL ART VOYAGE NAVIGATING PEACE AMIDST THE CHAOS
Art Exhibition
“Flow State” is a positive psychology term used when we are fully immersed in an activity and/or sensation. It is an intrinsic motivation experience, meaning, having the drive to do something for our own pleasure and not for someone else. When external forces are out of our control, it can be easy to fall into chaos, which can affect our state of mental health and actions. This “chaos” that prevents flow from happening comes in different ways, such as apathy, anxiety, boredom, depression, distractions, and stress. During flow, people experience deep enjoyment, creativity, high levels of arousal, and total involvement in life when completing tasks that involve curiosity and problem solving in any given space, so much so that time distorts itself. Activities that can induce flow are creative pursuits and hobbies, physical activities, problem-solving, mindfulness, and even work flow.
“Within my Flow” is an art exhibition showcasing visual examples of different forms of internal and external chaos we may face in our daily lives, as well as voyaging towards a flow state of mind and body by restoring inner peace through immersive, present moment tasks. These art pieces are self-portraits and reflections from the curator, but also pieces and themes suggested by the curator’s friends and family. She invites the audience to reflect and answer these questions as they view her work: “What helps me to find flow in my life?” “What would happen if I lived my life everyday in this optimal state without permission?”
